The Best Temperatures For Sleeping

Are you having trouble getting a good night of sleep? The problem might be your bedroom temperature! There’s a reason you have a more challenging time falling asleep on extra warm summer nights or colder winter evenings. Each individual sleeps best in slightly cooler or warmer temperatures depending on the person and their size. While everyone has different preferences, we’ve created a guide to help you determine what range of temperature is best for you and your loved ones at night. Keep reading to learn about the best sleeping temperatures for adults and children!

Babies and Toddlers:
65-70

Babies and toddlers typically need a slightly warmer temperature to get a good night’s sleep. Since their bodies are smaller, small children have a more challenging time regulating their body temperature. With that being said, each child is different; if your child has trouble sleeping, adjust the temperature slightly at night to see if it makes a difference in their sleeping patterns. Anywhere from 65 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal for babies and toddlers.

Adults:
60-67

Like babies, every adult’s sleep preference is different regarding temperature. Most adults, however, sleep best in temperatures ranging from 60-67 degrees Fahrenheit. Adult bodies can better regulate body temperature, which means slight temperature changes shouldn’t make much difference in sleeping patterns. If you find yourself having trouble staying asleep or getting good sleep at night, try adjusting the thermostat a degree or so to your liking.

Elderly:
65-78

The ideal temperature range for seniors is about 65-78 degrees Fahrenheit. Most older adults sleep best in warmer temperatures due to their body’s fragility and inability to regulate heat properly, unlike younger adults. Warmer temperatures not only help older folks to sleep soundly, it also helps prevent illnesses from spreading in retirement homes and care facilities where they might be staying.
